Rusalka flows in!

Our 2D animation based around the tale of Rusalka is finally complete!  Commissioned by the Florida Grand Opera, the animation was created by a team of highly motivated Carnegie Mellon students (including Michelle Ma, Emily Zhou, Miranda Jacoby, Nivetha Kannan, Swetha Kannan, Soojin Sohn, and myself) and started back in November 2015.

This animation is based on Rusalka, an opera by Antonín Dvořák.  The titular character is a water nymph who falls in love with a human prince, who cannot see her.  In order to embrace him, she sells her voice to the witch Ježibaba, carrying the risk of eternal damnation if he betrays her.  The animation is based on her aria "Song to the Moon," which she sings before her visit to the witch so that the moon would tell the prince of her love.  However, the prince betrays her, and both fall to eternal damnation.

I hope you guys enjoy the animation!  Though a lot of work, it was so much fun to make!  I was primarily involved with the storyboard and animation side, and I gotta say, I love this little band of animators.  I'm sure this isn't the last time you'll see us!  Oh, and be on the lookout for our animation when it's used in a live opera performance!
